Meet Dr. Sam Harouni
PRP TREATMENT
What is a dental bone graft?
A dental bone graft is a surgical procedure that involves transplanting bone from other areas of your body into your jaw. You may need a bone graft if you’re getting dental implants but don’t have enough healthy jawbone to support them.
Dr. Harouni may also opt to perform bone graft surgery during a corrective jaw surgery or to repair a jaw fracture.
Treatment involves surgery under intravenous (IV) sedation to keep you comfortable and pain-free during the procedure. This type of sedation can also make it difficult for you to remember any part of the surgery.
What are PRP treatments?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments are injections that contain high concentrations of blood platelets. These platelets contain growth factors that help your body heal from injury or trauma.
To retrieve the plasma, Dr. Harouni extracts a blood sample from you. He then prepares the blood to separate the platelets from the other materials. He then uses this platelet concentrate and growth factors to regenerate bone in your jaw.
Over time, the platelets continue to develop and encourage the regeneration of healthy bone growth, speeding up your recovery from a bone grafting procedure.
How does stem cell therapy work?
Stem cells have a special ability to develop into other types of cells, such as bone, muscle, tissue, and tendons. Using stem cells after a bone graft can help regenerate new, healthy bone growth.
Stem cell therapy works similarly to PRP injections, but Dr. Harouni may opt to use stem cells found in your bone marrow rather than your blood. After the injection, stem cells develop into new, healthy bone and tissue to improve healing time in your jaw after grafting surgery.
Am I a good candidate for stem cell or PRP injections?
Generally, stem cell and PRP therapy are safe and effective for anyone during the recovering and healing phase after surgery. Dr. Harouni can determine if this type of therapy is right for you after a thorough evaluation of your oral and physical health.
Because the injectable materials come from your own blood or bone marrow, there is less risk of rejection or other health complications after treatment.
